A discreet, wearable chew for children and adults who need to chew

The ARK Chewlinder Chew Necklace is a hollow, cylinder-shaped chew pendant made by ARK Therapeutic for children and adults aged 3 and over who need a safe outlet for chewing. Unlike pendants that hang vertically, the Chewlinder hangs horizontally, with the cord passing right through the tube. Its plain, neutral look means it can be worn at school, at home or out and about without drawing attention.

How it helps

Many children and adults with SEND or sensory needs chew on shirt collars, sleeves, pencils or straws to help them stay calm and focused. The Chewlinder gives that chewing a purposeful, safe and hygienic place to go. The hollow tube is about 6.1 cm long and 1 cm in diameter, a shape and feel that suits people who chew on collars and straws. It is made from medical-grade elastomer and is available in three colour-coded toughness levels, so you can match it to how hard the wearer chews.

For schools

Hands-free access all day: the pendant sits on a breakaway cord, so pupils can reach it during lessons without asking or leaving their seat.
Discreet and age-neutral: the simple tube shape suits pupils from EYFS through to KS4 and post-16, including older students who may avoid more childlike designs.
Fits sensory and SEN provision: it can form part of a pupil's sensory diet, SEN support plan or EHCP provision as a wearable chewing tool.
Easy to keep clean: top-rack dishwasher safe or handwashable, which helps with hygiene in a busy classroom.

For parents and home use

Saves clothes and belongings: gives a safe alternative to chewing collars, cuffs, toys and pencils.
Supports calm and focus at home: useful during homework, screen time, car journeys and busy family outings.
Grows with your child: the neutral design is suitable for young children, teenagers and adults alike.
Choose the right firmness: start with the softest option for gentle chewers or go tougher for children who wear chews out quickly.

Support for SEND and learning differences

Chewing is a common way for children and adults with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and learning differences to regulate themselves, especially when they are anxious, concentrating hard or feeling overwhelmed. Giving that need a safe, dedicated tool can reduce damage to clothes and belongings and help the wearer feel more settled and ready to learn.

Why chewing helps

Chewing provides proprioceptive input through the jaw muscles, which many occupational therapists use as a calming and organising strategy. A wearable chew keeps that input close at hand throughout the day, without the wearer needing to hunt for something to chew.

Choosing your toughness level

Softest (Standard): red or light grey, for light chewers.
Medium (XT, medium firm): lime green or black, for moderate chewers.
Toughest (XXT, very firm): royal blue or dark grey, for avid chewers.

If you are not sure which toughness level to choose, or you are ordering for a class or setting, our team is happy to help before you order.
