What is the Original Polydron Frameworks Class Set?

The Original Polydron Frameworks Class Set (code 10-3031F) is a 310-piece shape construction kit from Polydron for children aged 6 and over. It contains 160 equilateral triangles, 80 squares, 40 pentagons and 30 hexagons in 4 colours, plus an Exploring Frameworks activity booklet. Each Frameworks piece is an open frame, so children can see inside a finished shape and explore the space within.

What can children build with Polydron Frameworks?

With 310 lightweight pieces that are easy to connect, a class can build flat 2D patterns and then fold them into solid 3D shapes. Polydron describes Frameworks as a way to investigate shapes, angles, edges, vertices, planes and tangents, and to build larger shapes and models. The open frames make hidden faces and edges visible, which helps when counting the properties of a shape. Frameworks pieces are fully compatible with the Original Polydron range.

For schools

  • Supports the maths curriculum on 2D and 3D shape, nets, faces, edges and vertices across KS1 and KS2.
  • 310 pieces give enough shapes for a whole class to work in small groups at the same time.
  • Concrete models help pupils move to pictorial and abstract work, in line with Quality First Teaching.
  • Dishwasher safe at 70°C, so shared pieces are simple to keep clean.
  • Useful in SEND provision and intervention groups where hands-on resources are needed.

For parents and home use

  • A large set for families or home educators who want plenty of pieces for bigger builds.
  • Open-ended building lets children explore shape and pattern at their own pace.
  • Joining the pieces gives regular fine motor practice.
  • The Exploring Frameworks booklet offers ready-made activities to start with.
  • Seeing inside a model helps children feel more confident about shape and space.

Supporting learners with SEND and learning differences

Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences understand maths ideas that can feel abstract on paper. With Polydron Frameworks, children can hold a shape, look through it and count its edges and corners directly. The 4 colours give clear visual cues, and clicking pieces together builds fine motor control. Building, folding and unfolding a net makes the link between 2D and 3D shape concrete and repeatable.

The Original Polydron Frameworks Class Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences, for use in school or at home.
