The Original Crystal Polydron Class Set (code 10-3031CRYSTAL) is a 184-piece translucent construction kit from Polydron for children aged 4 and over. It contains 100 equilateral triangles, 40 squares, 24 pentagons and 20 hexagons, plus an exploring booklet. Polydron designed the set for whole-class use, and the pieces are made from tough engineering grade polycarbonate.
With four shapes, children can make 2D patterns and 3D models such as cubes, tetrahedrons and dodecahedrons. The see-through pieces let them look inside solid structures and understand the shape and space within. Each square side measures 7.5 cm. The pieces come in red, yellow, blue, green and clear, and Polydron recommends using them on a light table or against a light source to explore light and colour while studying geometry.
Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences make sense of maths ideas that are hard to picture on paper. Translucent pieces let children see the back faces and hidden edges of a solid, so counting properties becomes a visual task rather than a memory task. The bright colours give clear cues, especially on a light table. Snapping pieces together supports fine motor practice, and building a net then folding it shows the link between 2D and 3D shape.
The Original Crystal Polydron Class Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences, for classrooms, intervention rooms and homes.
