The Original Polydron Primary Maths Set (code 10-3050) is a 414-piece shape construction kit from Polydron for children aged 4 and over. It contains nine different shapes: 100 equilateral triangles, 80 right angle triangles, 60 isosceles triangles, 50 root 2 triangles, 40 squares, 30 rectangles, 24 pentagons, 20 hexagons and 10 octagons, plus an Exploring Polydron activity booklet. Polydron designed it to be used alongside the book Primary Mathematics with Polydron.
With over 400 pieces in 4 colours, pupils can compare many types of triangle, build tessellations, and fold nets into cubes, cuboids, prisms, pyramids and more complex polyhedra. The rectangles and octagons widen the range of nets and solids a class can make. Each square measures 7.3 x 7.3 cm. The joints snap together to give a strong hinge, and the pieces connect with Crystal Polydron, Polydron Frameworks, Polydron Bridges and Polydron Engineer.
Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences grasp maths ideas that can feel abstract on paper. Placing a right angle triangle next to an isosceles triangle shows the difference far more clearly than a diagram. The bright pieces give clear visual cues, and snapping edges together builds fine motor control. Building and unfolding nets makes the link between 2D and 3D shape concrete and easy to revisit.
The Original Polydron Primary Maths Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences, for use in the classroom or at home.
