What is the Solid Magnetic Polydron Class Set?

The Solid Magnetic Polydron Class Set (code 50-9100) is a 72-piece magnetic construction kit from Polydron for children aged 3 and over. It contains 36 squares and 36 equilateral triangles, plus a model guide. Every piece is magnetic, and the set is made from ABS plastic with 70% recycled content.

What can children build with the Solid Magnetic Polydron Class Set?

Children can lay the 72 pieces flat to make 2D patterns and nets, then lift them so the magnets pull the shapes together into 3D solids such as cubes, pyramids and prisms. Each square measures 6 x 6 cm. The pieces come in four bright colours, and the colour coding helps children learn about magnetic polarity as they discover which edges attract. The set is compatible with Magnetic Polydron, so it can be combined with other magnetic sets.

For schools

  • Designed by Polydron for class use, with 72 pieces for group building in EYFS and KS1.
  • Shows clearly how 2D nets fold into 3D solids, supporting early maths work on shape and space.
  • Gives a concrete starting point for Quality First Teaching before pictorial and abstract work.
  • Suits SEND provision and small intervention groups that need hands-on resources.
  • Can be sterilised with an alcohol-based sanitiser between sessions.

For parents and home use

  • Supports home learning about shape names, sides and corners through play.
  • Magnetic edges join easily, which helps younger children build with confidence.
  • Handling and placing pieces gives regular fine motor practice.
  • Open-ended building lets children make their own models or follow the model guide.
  • Suitable from age 3, with adult supervision because the pieces contain magnets.

Supporting learners with SEND and learning differences

Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences grasp maths ideas that can feel abstract on paper. With Solid Magnetic Polydron, children can touch, turn and count the faces of a shape instead of picturing them. The magnets guide pieces into place, which reduces frustration, and the bright colours give clear visual cues. Folding a flat net into a solid makes the link between 2D and 3D shape concrete and easy to repeat.

The Solid Magnetic Polydron Class Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences, for nurseries, schools and families.
