What is the Polydron Frameworks Prism and Pyramid Set?

The Polydron Frameworks Prism and Pyramid Set (code 10-3067F) is a 121-piece shape construction kit from Polydron for children aged 6 and over. It contains 10 different shapes, from right angle and isosceles triangles to rectangles, octagons and decagons. Every piece is an open frame, so children can see inside each prism or pyramid they build. A full set of teacher's notes is included.

How does the set help children learn about prisms and pyramids?

The pieces are colour coded to make sorting simple. The 53 red pieces are triangles: 9 equilateral, 10 right angle, 26 isosceles and 8 Root 2 triangles. The 58 blue pieces are 14 squares and 44 rectangles. The 10 yellow pieces are 3 pentagons, 3 hexagons, 2 octagons and 2 decagons. Children choose a base shape, then add rectangles for a prism or triangles for a pyramid, and compare the results. The pieces are lightweight, easy to connect and fully compatible with the Original Polydron range.

For schools

  • Supports the maths curriculum on 3D shape, prisms, pyramids, faces, edges and vertices across KS1 and KS2.
  • Teacher's notes include many exercises and extension ideas for lesson planning.
  • Colour coding helps pupils find the right pieces quickly during group work.
  • Concrete models support Quality First Teaching before pictorial and abstract work.
  • Useful in SEND provision and intervention groups where hands-on resources are needed.

For parents and home use

  • Helps children explore 3D shape through hands-on building at home.
  • Joining the pieces gives regular fine motor practice.
  • Open-ended building means children can invent their own shapes as well as follow ideas.
  • Suitable from age 6, with octagons and decagons to stretch older children.

Supporting learners with SEND and learning differences

Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences understand maths ideas that can feel abstract on paper. Children can hold a prism, look through its open faces and count its edges directly. The red, blue and yellow colour coding gives clear visual cues, and joining pieces builds fine motor control. Changing one base shape and seeing the whole model change makes the rules of prisms and pyramids concrete.

The Polydron Frameworks Prism and Pyramid Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences, for use in school or at home.
