The Original Polydron Bridges Class Set (code 10-9030) is a 322-piece engineering construction kit from Polydron for children aged 9 and over. It lets a class build eight bridges at the same time and recreate iconic bridges from across the world. Twelve work cards and lesson plans give step-by-step instructions for each design.
The 322 pieces come in a wide variety of shapes, shown in a key. Groups can build all eight of these bridges at once: Pratt Truss, Howe Truss, Warren Truss, Deck Truss, Cantilever, Cable Stay, Suspension and Draw Bridge. Extension activities add a Swing Bridge and a Bascule Bridge. Polydron describes the set as a chance for budding civil engineers and designers to build and test several types of bridge design, then go beyond the set shapes with their own creations. The boxed set measures 43 x 31 x 30 cm and weighs 6 kg.
Hands-on construction helps many learners with SEND and learning differences understand ideas that can feel abstract on paper. Building a bridge lets children see and feel how a structure carries weight. The work cards break each build into clear, visual stages, and group building gives children the chance to learn alongside peers. Handling the pieces also builds fine motor control.
The Original Polydron Bridges Class Set is available to order from The Dyslexia Shop, a UK specialist in resources for SEND and learning differences, for use in the classroom or at home.
