In Petunia by Roger Duvoisin, a proud little goose finds a book and decides that carrying it around must make her wise. Before long, she’s offering advice to her farmyard neighbors, with one silly mix-up after another. Petunia’s confidence is endearing, even when she gets things so very wrong.

First published in 1950, this funny, tender story gives children plenty to giggle about while gently reminding them that there’s more to learning than simply holding a book.
