FAQ
Who is the Sea Run Loggerhead Compact Travel Case for?
The Sea Run Loggerhead Compact is ideal for traveling anglers who want confidence that their valuable rods, reels, and other equipment are protected throughout their journey. With more airlines and airports requiring anglers to check rod cases rather than carry them onboard, having a dependable, protective travel case is increasingly important. The Loggerhead's rigid construction and organized interior help safeguard expensive equipment from the rough handling that can come with checked baggage, making it a particularly good choice for anglers who travel frequently and want peace of mind knowing their gear is well protected.
How does the Compact 34" compare to the Loggerhead Extended 37"?
The two share the same design: patent-pending 3D hard-shell, waterproof and airtight build, YKK AQUASEAL zipper, six movable dividers, TSA lock, backpack and shoulder straps, and a limited lifetime warranty. The differences come down to length and rod capacity. The Compact 34" measures 34 x 9.5 x 5" outside and holds five to six 4-piece rods up to 10'. The Extended 37" measures 37 x 9.5 x 5.25" outside and holds five 4-piece rods up to 11'6", so it is the one to choose for spey rods. In exchange, the Compact fits overhead storage, is IATA air travel certified, and holds six to seven reels versus six on the Extended. Both cases weigh about 9 lbs empty, so ask us for exact figures if your airline's weight limits are tight. Short version: pick the Compact if your rods are 10' or under and carry-on matters; pick the Extended if you travel with 10'6" to 11'6" rods.
Will it fit in overhead storage?
The Compact 34" fits overhead storage and is IATA air travel certified. Overhead bin sizes vary by aircraft and airline, so confirm your carrier's carry-on rules before you fly, especially on smaller regional jets.
How waterproof is it?
The Compact is crushproof with IPX7 waterproof and airtight construction, sealed by a YKK AQUASEAL zipper. IPX7 covers temporary immersion, so it handles rain, spray, and a dunk off a dock quite easily. It is also noteworthy that the Loggerhead naturally floats, though this will also depend on the weight of its contents.
