When the Trash Bin Becomes Form

ExtLine doesn't make a trash bin more beautiful. It removes what makes one look like a trash bin.

The opening disappears into the top. The liner and its contents stay hidden. Even the familiar tapered silhouette is gone, replaced by a slim metal volume that sits flush against a wall or sofa.

The result is a trash bin that belongs among the objects you chose for the room.

Built Around the Space It Occupies

  • Slim Where It Matters

At just 4.3 inches (110mm) wide, ExtLine fits into the margins of a room rather than pushing further into it. Its straight, untapered body sits flush against a wall or the side of a sofa, keeping waste within reach without interrupting the space around it.

  • The Opening Disappears

Press one side of the center-pivot lid and it rotates open, creating an opening for waste without a separate lid to lift or hold. Once closed, both the waste and liner disappear from view, leaving only the metal form.

  • Choose Its Presence

Black emphasizes ExtLine's simple geometry, making it a more deliberate object in the room. Silver takes a quieter approach, allowing the same form to sit more naturally among the materials around it. The Silver surface is also treated to make fingerprints and marks easier to wipe away.

Simple Is Hard to Make

ExtLine's simplicity leaves nowhere for the craftsmanship to hide. Designer Yuji Tsukamoto built its form around one of Gendai Kogyo's most specialized capabilities: Shikaru bending.

Unlike conventional bending, which leaves a rounded edge, the technique creates a groove in the metal before it is folded, allowing Gendai Kogyo to produce ExtLine's unusually sharp edges. Behind that precision are more than 30 years of sheet-metal expertise at Gendai Kogyo in Osaka, Japan.

On something this simple, every edge becomes part of the design.

The Things You Live With

Against the wall, where its clean geometry lets it sit flush without taking more room than it needs. Beside the sofa, where a trash bin has always been useful, but rarely something you'd want alongside your furniture.

In a gallery, design studio, or salon, it can remain within easy reach of clients and visitors without looking like an afterthought. The same attention given to the furniture, lighting, and objects on display extends to something as ordinary as where the waste goes.

ExtLine turns that necessity into something worth keeping in view, rather than something you'd rather keep out of sight.

Even the things a room needs can be things you want to live with.
