My name is Kara. In 2022 our family was told that the little boy I was pregnant with had a congenital heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome also known has HLHS and is among the most severe defects.

We decided as a family to give our little baby a fighting chance which meant a series of 3 surgeries in the first 4 years of life. 2 of those surgeries within the 1st year.

Our son, Kendrick, was born via c section July 3rd 2023.

At 2 days old he had his first heart surgery. All went well and we were only in the hospital for 18 days.

Unfortunately at 2 months old he had a bloody stool. The hospital treated as NEC an infection in the intestines.

When he was sent for his PICC line something went wrong with sedation.

There was a moment of lack of oxygen and he suffered a stroke.

He had retractable seizures for almost a month to the point where we did not think he was going to be able to pull through. By the grace of god he did.

But it came with some severe deficits.

Including feeding complications that led to a a gtube placement. He was diagnosed with cerebral palsy that effects all 4 limbs. CVI (a brain vision disorder) and developmental delay.

Now that hes in a safer place we want to explore stem cell treatment. That does come with a huge price tag. But the seeing how much its helped others in the same situation as KJ its worth it.
