The Whale is the kind of piece that makes a room. A gentle giant folded from washable paper fabric, it hangs overhead as though it is drifting through deep water, and it draws every eye in the room up toward the ceiling.
What makes it special
The Whale arrives fully assembled and ready to hang, with no crafting required. It is expertly handcrafted from washable paper fabric, folded with interlocking tabs and not a drop of glue. A small sailboat sits on its back, where the spout would be, cut from the same tear-resistant material as the whale, and it lifts off if you would rather have the whale on its own. Lit, it glows softly from within, and with a colored or smart bulb the belly takes on whatever shade you choose, so the whale itself becomes the centerpiece. It anchors a nursery, a child's bedroom, or a reading nook, and works just as well as a whimsical accent over a bathtub, in a hallway, or in a living area.
Good to know
- Dimensions: 40 cm wide by 27 cm deep by 52 cm high, a true statement size.
- The sailboat: a small sailboat is included and sits on the whale's back, in the same material as the whale. It lifts off if you prefer the whale without it.
- Ready to hang: arrives fully assembled, with no crafting or gluing required.
- Material: washable paper fabric, a tear-resistant, vegan, paper-like fabric that keeps its shape and will not crease, tear, or sag the way ordinary paper does, and wipes clean under water.
- Handcrafted without glue: folded and held together entirely with interlocking tabs, with no glue or tape anywhere.
- Handcrafted design: an original, 100% human-designed piece, with no AI at any step of the design.
- Made for children's spaces: child-safe and Montessori-friendly, handmade in Europe.
- Lighting: the lamp clips onto any standard E27, E26 or E14 fitting in two clicks, no tools needed. An optional cord set is available with the socket, an inline switch, an EU plug, a ceiling hook and a wall plug, so it hangs where you want it and the cable runs to the nearest wall socket. LED bulbs only, bulb not included. It cannot sit flush to the ceiling: allow at least 20 cm of cord below it.
Whether it is the centerpiece of a nursery or a striking gift for someone who loves the ocean, the Whale brings a bit of deep-sea wonder to any ceiling it hangs from. Long before the whale became these folds it was a drawing, and that study opens January in Before the Fold, one of our 2027 wall calendars.
