Begun Anew

Begun Anew

Though right handed, this drawing was done primarily with my left-hand. I feel that this technique frees me and enables me to be a better receptor of inspiration. The symbols evolve as I draw, surprising me, baffling me as to what the image will be and what the rest of the drawing will look like. Sometimes symbols show up within the object as I draw. When finished with my drawing, research quiets my mind and reassures me about what I have been inspired to draw. The hard part is knowing what to call the object in order to look it up. The drawing has many cultural and religious symbols from many time periods. Look at the drawing and try to find as many objects as you can. There may be an encoded message in the drawing just for you. In your search for meaning in the drawing, the images may reassure you about what you are experiencing in your life, bring a tear to your eye, or tickle your fancy. Whatever your response is, enjoy the exploration and adventure into the collective unconscious world of symbols.

I began this drawing in March of 1994. I finished it in March of 1997. Life experiences caused me to reach the stage of beginning anew. After going with the flow, cleansing old thoughts, tears of grief, sorrow and depression, hope merged old talents and new ones to spawn new life. Guided by support of friends, my faith and trust in a supreme divine power slowly resurfaced. Though I was not always aware of a Presence, divinity never left my side through the transition. Perhaps the saying in the bible, "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God." (John 3:5) gives a clue to the story in this drawing. See what the symbols and movement of the drawing say to you.
