Silphium is an aromatic floral fragrance with a distinctive warm, spiced character.
Geranium sits at its heart, surrounded by cinnamon, black pepper, ginger and clove, creating something fragrant and complex rather than overtly sweet. Frankincense, myrrh and cedarwood bring warmth and depth underneath, with tobacco and leather adding texture to the dry-down.
The fragrance takes its name from Silphium, a plant once found around Cyrene in present-day Libya and prized throughout classical antiquity as a spice, medicine and perfume ingredient. So valuable that it was eventually harvested to extinction, its exact scent has been lost.
Stora Skuggan created its own Silphium accord by researching surviving plants thought to be related to it, using modern aroma materials to imagine the character of this vanished ingredient.
