DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator

Snow on the driveway, a Tuesday night, and you are still hitting driver. Choose the screen size, mat, projector and launch monitor here, watch the build take shape in 3D at real size, and check out without waiting on a quote.

The DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator is a complete home golf simulator package you configure on this page: a Carl's Place DIY enclosure with a premium impact screen in six sizes, a Real Feel hitting mat, a short-throw laser projector with its ceiling mount, and the launch monitor of your choice from 22 radar, camera and overhead units. Every pick updates the price and the 3D view, and the whole build goes to your cart as one package. It is for the golfer who wants one order for the whole room instead of sourcing a screen, frame, mat and projector separately.

Launch Monitor

Choose your launch monitor, or bring your own

Twenty-two launch monitors are available on this page, from the Swing Caddie SC4 PRO and Garmin Approach R10 to the Foresight Sports GCQuad and QuadMAX. Already own one? Keep the default, BYO Launch Monitor, and use yours.

  • Behind the ball: Swing Caddie SC4 PRO, Garmin Approach R10, Rapsodo MLM2PRO, FlightScope Mevo Gen2, Full Swing KIT, FlightScope X3C
  • Beside the ball: SkyTrak ST MAX, Bushnell LPi Circle B Edition, Uneekor EYE MINI LITE, Bushnell Launch Pro Circle B Edition, Uneekor EYE MINI, Foresight Sports GC3S, Garmin Approach R50, Foresight Sports GC3, Foresight Sports GCQuad, Foresight Sports QuadMAX
  • Overhead, on the ceiling: Uneekor EYE XR, Uneekor EYE XO, ProTee VX, TruGolf APOGEE, Uneekor EYE XO2, Foresight Sports Falcon. Overhead units are ceiling-specific: 9 to 10 ft for ProTee VX and TruGolf APOGEE, 9.5 to 10.5 ft for the Foresight Falcon, and 9 to 10 ft for Uneekor EYE XR, EYE XO and EYE XO2. Above those heights, add the Launch Monitor Ceiling Drop-Mount Kit in the builder. For the EYE XR, EYE XO and EYE XO2, Uneekor also asks for a room at least 13 ft wide, so your room has to clear that and the kit's own room minimum.

Not sure which one? The launch monitor comparison lines them up by accuracy, placement, software and price, and the golf simulator builder sizes a full setup to your room.

Carl's Place DIY Golf Simulator Enclosure
Enclosure and Screen

Carl's Place DIY Enclosure

The Carl's Place DIY Golf Simulator Enclosure builds a clean, fully contained hitting bay. Every size in this package ships with the triple-layer Premium impact screen, a pre-cut 1-inch EMT pipe framing kit, foam inserts, a pair of 8 ft net wall extensions and an overhead safety baffle. BlackStop light-absorbing fabric keeps the picture bright with less bounce-back.

Room minimum, to the inch. Width is Carl's overall frame plus a 3 in buffer on each side; height is the frame plus 3 in above; depth is 12 in behind the frame, the 67.375 in frame, 5 ft 1 in from the frame to the tee (10 ft from the screen, the closest Carl's says to hit from) and 5 ft behind the tee to swing, which is 16 ft 9 in for every size; Carl's Place recommends 7 ft behind the tee for a full driver swing, which makes it 18 ft 9 in. Apart from the Swing Caddie SC4 PRO, a launch monitor that sits behind the ball needs Carl's 7 ft or its maker's setback behind the tee, whichever is longer, which makes it 18 ft 9 in for the Garmin R10 and Rapsodo MLM2PRO and 19 ft 9 in for the FlightScope Mevo Gen2, Full Swing KIT and FlightScope X3C; the SC4 PRO needs only its own 5 ft setback, so 16 ft 9 in. Figures are rounded up to the next inch.

Power. Everything in the package plugs into ordinary 120 V household outlets; no dedicated circuit or hardwiring is needed. The projectors run on a 100 to 240 V supply and draw 139 W (Optoma ZW350ST) to 440 W (BenQ LK936ST), a gaming PC is a standard desktop tower or laptop, and the launch monitor runs on a small power adapter or its own battery, so one 15 A circuit carries the whole bay. Plan an outlet at the ceiling for the projector and one near the tee for the launch monitor and computer.

Room Minimums by Size
8'W x 8'H x 5'D (Carl's 8x8, 1:1) frame 100"W x 100"H - min. room 8'10"W x 8'7"H x 16'9"D
10'W x 7.7'H x 5'D (Carl's 7.7x10, 4:3) frame 124.8"W x 95.8"H - min. room 10'11"W x 8'3"H x 16'9"D
10.5'W x 8'H x 5'D (Carl's 8x10.5, 4:3) frame 130.3"W x 100"H - min. room 11'5"W x 8'7"H x 16'9"D
11.5'W x 8.5'H x 5'D (Carl's 8.5x11.5, 4:3) frame 140.3"W x 107.5"H - min. room 12'3"W x 9'3"H x 16'9"D
12'W x 9'H x 5'D (Carl's 9x12, 4:3) frame 146.3"W x 112"H - min. room 12'9"W x 9'7"H x 16'9"D
13'W x 7.7'H x 5'D (Carl's 7.7x13, 16:9) frame 163.3"W x 95.8"H - min. room 14'2"W x 8'3"H x 16'9"D
Real Feel Country Club Elite Golf Mat
Hitting Mat

Hitting mat

The package ships with the Real Feel Country Club Elite Golf Mat, 5'W x 5'L. Its long, dense fibers let you swing down and through the turf the way you would off a fairway, it takes a real wooden tee, and the base absorbs the strike so your joints do not.

Three Fiberbuilt mats are one click away in the builder, or remove the mat if you already have one:

  • Fiberbuilt Performance Turf Tee Box Mat, 8'W x 4'L
  • Fiberbuilt 7'x4' Grass Series Single-Hitting Studio Mat
  • Fiberbuilt 9'x4' Grass Series Center-Hitting Studio Mat (right- and left-handed)
Landing Pad

Optional: Tour Golf Landing Pad

The Tour Landing Pad cushions and quiets balls dropping off the screen, keeps them from scuffing the floor, and bridges the gap between the mat and the enclosure. It is not selected by default.

Tick it and the builder preselects the width we recommend, one foot wider than the enclosure, always 8 ft long:

  • 9'W x 8'L for the 8'W enclosure
  • 11'W x 8'L for the 10'W enclosure
  • 11.5'W x 8'L for the 10.5'W enclosure
  • 12.5'W x 8'L for the 11.5'W enclosure
  • 13'W x 8'L for the 12'W enclosure
  • 14'W x 8'L for the 13'W enclosure
Optoma ZW350ST Short Throw Laser Projector
Projector

Projector and ceiling mount

The Optoma ZW350ST is the included projector: 3,600 lumens, a 30,000-hour DuraCore laser with no bulb to replace, and a 0.521:1 short throw, so it mounts close to the screen and out of the swing. Seven BenQ short-throw projectors are available in the builder, from the 1080p TH671ST to the 5,100-lumen 4K LK936ST, and the ceiling mount switches to the right model for whichever projector you choose. Remove the projector and the mount goes with it. The projector calculator shows the mount distance for your screen size.

  • Optoma ZW350ST 3600-Lumen WXGA Laser (0.521:1 throw), included
  • BenQ TH671ST 3000-Lumen 1080p (0.69-0.83:1 throw)
  • BenQ AH30ST 3000-Lumen 1080p LED (0.69-0.83:1 throw)
  • BenQ AH500ST 4000-Lumen 1080p Laser (0.5:1 throw)
  • BenQ AH700ST 4000-Lumen 1080p Laser (0.69-0.83:1 throw)
  • BenQ LK830ST 4000-Lumen 4K Laser (0.496:1 throw)
  • BenQ AK700ST 4000-Lumen 4K Laser (0.69-0.83:1 throw)
  • BenQ LK936ST 5100-Lumen 4K Laser (0.81-0.89:1 throw)
SurfThing Gaming Computer
Computer

Optional: SurfThing gaming computer and touch screen

Simulation software such as GSPro, E6 Connect and FSX Play needs a gaming-class computer, and the one you pick here arrives ready for it. SurfThing builds them for golf simulation: 32GB DDR5, a 2TB SSD and an NVIDIA RTX 50-series GPU, in a desktop tower or a laptop. With the desktop PC, add the SurfThing DT2424H 23.8-inch touch screen to start rounds, review data and scrub swing video without walking back to a keyboard. It is not offered with the laptop, which has its own screen.

  • SurfThing Enhanced Level PC: Core Ultra 5 with RTX 5070 Ti, 32GB DDR5, 2TB SSD
  • SurfThing Enhanced Level Laptop: Core Ultra 9 with RTX 5070, 32GB DDR5, 2TB SSD

3D Build View

See your build before you buy

Before you order, see the screen, the mat, the projector on its mount and the launch monitor drawn at real size, each where it goes.

The second gallery thumbnail opens an interactive 3D view of your build at real size, with the launch monitor where it belongs: behind the ball, beside it or overhead. Drag to rotate, pinch or scroll to zoom, open it full screen. Share build saves the configuration to a short topshelfgolf.com link with a picture, for a spouse, a contractor or us, and the link rides along on your cart line and order.

FAQ

DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator Questions

What comes in the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator?
The base package is a Carl's Place DIY Enclosure Bundle (10'W x 7.7'H x 5'D, 4:3, with Premium impact screen, pipe framing kit, foam inserts, net wall pair and safety baffle), a Real Feel Country Club Elite Mat 5'W x 5'L, an Optoma ZW350ST short-throw laser projector and its ceiling mount. A launch monitor, protective case, Launch Monitor Ceiling Drop-Mount Kit, landing pad, gaming computer and touch screen are added in the builder.
Which launch monitors can I add to the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator?
Twenty-two launch monitors can be added to the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator: Swing Caddie SC4 PRO, Garmin Approach R10, Rapsodo MLM2PRO, FlightScope Mevo Gen2, SkyTrak ST MAX, Bushnell LPi Circle B Edition, Uneekor EYE MINI LITE, Bushnell Launch Pro Circle B Edition, Uneekor EYE MINI, Foresight Sports GC3S, Full Swing KIT, Garmin Approach R50, Uneekor EYE XR, Foresight Sports GC3, Uneekor EYE XO, ProTee VX, TruGolf APOGEE, Uneekor EYE XO2, FlightScope X3C, Foresight Sports Falcon, Foresight Sports GCQuad and Foresight Sports QuadMAX. Picking one switches the page to that variant, so the price and the picture match your build.
Can I buy the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator without a launch monitor?
BYO Launch Monitor is the default: the package ships with the enclosure, mat, projector and mount and no launch monitor, so you can use the unit you already own and add a different one later.
Do I need a Drop-Mount Kit for an overhead launch monitor?
Overhead units are ceiling-specific: 9 to 10 ft for ProTee VX and TruGolf APOGEE, 9.5 to 10.5 ft for the Foresight Falcon, and 9 to 10 ft for Uneekor EYE XR, EYE XO and EYE XO2. Above those heights, the builder offers Carl's Launch Monitor Ceiling Drop-Mount Kit, cut for each of those units in 6 in to 9 in, 12 in to 18 in, 2 ft to 3 ft and 3 ft to 5 ft drops, for a level or a sloped ceiling.
How much room does the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator need?
Every size fits at 16 ft 9 in of depth, with 18 ft 9 in for a full driver swing; width and height depend on the enclosure: 8'10"W x 8'7"H for the 8'W kit, 10'11"W x 8'3"H for 10'W, 11'5"W x 8'7"H for 10.5'W, 12'3"W x 9'3"H for 11.5'W, 12'9"W x 9'7"H for 12'W and 14'2"W x 8'3"H for 13'W. That is Carl's overall frame plus 3 in on each side and above, and in depth 12 in behind the frame, the 67.375 in frame, 5 ft 1 in to the tee (10 ft from the screen) and 5 ft behind it to swing. Overhead launch monitors are ceiling-specific: 9 to 10 ft for ProTee VX and TruGolf APOGEE, 9.5 to 10.5 ft for the Foresight Falcon, and 9 to 10 ft for Uneekor EYE XR, EYE XO and EYE XO2. Above those heights, add the Launch Monitor Ceiling Drop-Mount Kit in the builder. For the EYE XR, EYE XO and EYE XO2, Uneekor also asks for a room at least 13 ft wide, so your room has to clear that and the kit's own room minimum. Before you order, put a ball where the tee will go and take a slow, full swing with your longest club.
Which enclosure size should I choose?
Pick the widest kit whose room minimum fits, then the aspect ratio: 4:3 (10', 10.5', 11.5' and 12' kits) gives the tallest picture for the width and needs 8'3" to 9'7" of height, 16:9 (13' kit) is the widescreen shape for rooms that are wide but not tall, and 1:1 (8' kit) is the square screen for a narrow bay. All six use the same 5 ft deep frame.
Does the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator include simulation software or a computer?
The DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator does not include simulation software or a computer. Simulation software is licensed separately and depends on the launch monitor you choose, and a gaming computer is optional in the builder. The SurfThing PC and laptop offered here are built for GSPro, E6 Connect and FSX Play.
Can I see my build before I buy it?
The 3D view shows your exact build at real size, with the enclosure, mat, landing pad, projector, mount and launch monitor placed where they belong, and it updates as you change any option.
Can I save or share my build?
Share build creates a short topshelfgolf.com link with a picture and an itemized list; opening it restores every selection.
How hard is the Carl's Place DIY enclosure to assemble?
With standard hand tools, most setups are done in a day. The pipe framing kit arrives pre-cut, the screen and nets attach to the frame with the supplied fittings, and the assembly video is in the video section of this page.
How fast does the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator ship?
Most items usually ship within 1-3 business days. Manufacturer delays can happen; we email tracking the moment it ships. The hitting mat, projector, projector mount and any launch monitor you add ship separately from the enclosure. Carl's Place builds each enclosure to order and usually ships it in about a week, by ground rather than freight, so there is no delivery appointment to schedule. Expect the DIY enclosure and its pre-cut pipe framing kit to arrive separately from the rest of your order, often in more than one box. Shipping is free within the contiguous 48 states on most products over $150 (some exceptions apply). We do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii or Puerto Rico.
Does Top Shelf Golf offer financing for the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator?
Top Shelf Golf offers financing through Affirm with flexible monthly payment options. Select Affirm at checkout to check your rate; it takes seconds and won't affect your credit score. Rates are 0% to 36% APR based on credit, subject to an eligibility check.
What is the warranty and return policy for the DIY Enclosure Golf Simulator?

We're proud to say we are an Authorized Dealer/Distributor for all the brands we carry. Your launch monitor, projector and computer are covered by their manufacturer's warranty from the date of the original purchase, subject to its conditions and limitations. Carl's Place screens and enclosure materials are wearable goods, so they do not carry a warranty. Some marking and wear from the first sessions is normal, and how long a screen lasts depends on skill level, how often you play and how it is installed. If something looks unusual rather than like normal wear, send us photos and your order number and we will take it up with Carl's Place.

Impact screens can be returned unused, but not once they have been hit. Because fit and material choice matter, measure your space before ordering.

Foresight Sports hardware can be returned under our Return Policy. Items must be returned in the original packaging, and the customer pays return shipping. Opened software and downloaded software licenses are not returnable.

We want you to be happy with your purchase and enjoy it for many years to come. If you decide you want to return your product, we will gladly assist you in the process. Please inspect your purchase when your package arrives. Product received damaged must be noted with the freight carrier at time of delivery. Contact us immediately no later than 24 hours from delivery time to report the damage. We cannot accept responsibility for a damaged shipment if it is not noted as such on the freight carrier's delivery receipt. Damage must be noted at the time of delivery.

For additional details about our return process & exceptions for all the items included in the package please see our Return Policy.
