Why It Works
Few flies imitate as many food sources as the Woolly Bugger. Trout may see it as a leech, baitfish, crayfish, dragonfly nymph, or simply a large, vulnerable meal worth chasing down.
The flowing marabou tail and pulsing hackle create constant movement in the water, making the fly look alive even during slow retrieves. This combination of profile, movement, and versatility is why the Woolly Bugger has remained one of the most trusted trout flies for decades.
Perfect For

How To Fish It
The Woolly Bugger can be fished in countless ways. Strip it back in short pulls to imitate a fleeing baitfish, swing it through current seams, or fish it slowly along the bottom to imitate a leech.
In lakes and ponds, a slow retrieve is often all that's needed. In rivers, try fishing it on a streamer setup, under an indicator, or as part of a larger nymph rig.
