These two beautiful floral biscornu patterns are included in one booklet, each with its own personality but finished in the same elegant way. As a lifelong gardener and stitcher, I’ve often found inspiration blooming right outside my window. There’s something magical about the little humble blossoms that carpet a garden. I love their softness and their delicacy.
The French word "biscornu" literally means "twisted," "irregular," or "quirky". Something with an odd or asymmetrical shape. It’s derived from old French roots and can describe anything a bit off-kilter, misshapen, or whimsical.
In the world of needlework, a biscornu is a small, ornamental, eight-sided pincushion or decorative object made by stitching together two square pieces of fabric, offset at 45 degrees from each other. The result is a charmingly odd little shape that makes me smile.
Stitchers love biscornus because they’re fun to make, great for showing off specialty stitches, and perfect as personal gifts, scissor fobs, or even Christmas ornaments. Whether you use them as pincushions or small decorative pillows to collect, they’re sure to bring beauty into your stitching space.
In this design set, I’ve captured two of my favourite flowers: the sweet violet, with its classic purple hues, and the delicate primrose or primula, with gentle shades of peachy pink. Enjoy stitching them as much as I loved designing them! - Thea
