Great star coral builds broad mounds on Caribbean reefs, each one covered in round, raised cups that each house a single polyp. It is usually brown, green or grey, and it does not usually get described as cheerful. The Buttercup Yellow Great Star is the exception. The piece is 4.5 inches wide and 2 inches deep, made of glazed ceramic, with a central star surrounded by raised cups, glazed in a soft, warm yellow. One screw holds it up, water never enters the picture, and it brightens a wall in roughly the time it takes to find a screwdriver.
