Custom first base mitt design is built around three plays. The pick on a low throw. The stretch to the bag. The scoop in the dirt. The Tater Pro-H web first base mitt handles all three. Deep pocket. Defined shape. Long enough to reach, tight enough to secure.
The Modified Pro-H web is the same general pattern used on many pro outfield gloves — that gives the first base glove the deep, defined pocket that holds the ball secure on picks and scoops where shallower web styles can let it slip. Premium leather throughout. Same hand-finished craftsmanship as the bats we ship to MLB hitters.
First base mitts run longer than any infield glove. The 1st base mitt has to reach low throws on the stretch and pull errant throws back to the bag. 12.5" is one of the most popular first base mitt sizes at every level — long enough to extend, controlled enough to handle picks cleanly. Pro 1B mitts run up to 13" for taller players, but 12.5" hits the sweet spot for most first basemen.
A first base mitt is a different category of gear than an infield glove. Mitts have no individual fingers, run longer, and use deeper pockets shaped for scooping rather than fielding grounders. Per MLB rules, 1B mitts have their own spec range. If you play first base, this is the build you want — an infield glove won't give you the pocket depth or reach for the position.
Available in the optimal 12.5" first base size. Customize web color, palm color, back color, lace color, and add embroidered numbers, initials, or team marks. Not sure if a 1B mitt is right for you? The Tater team can help.
