11/16" Square × 5" Minimum Length
Experience the authentic industrial heritage of solid Fordite pen blanks — a rare material formed from decades of layered automotive overspray paint baked in factories during the hand-sprayed vehicle era. Each piece showcases mesmerizing banded patterns, vibrant color gradients, and unique swirls that capture a slice of automotive history without any resin casting.
These solid Fordite blanks are a little thinner and measure approximately 11/16" square by 5" minimum length, slightly undersized for typical turning. The natural material delivers unpredictable layers of paint in striking visual character, making every blank one-of-a-kind.
Solid Fordite turns with care using sharp carbide tools like our Black Line carbide tools or HSS at 2,000–3,000 RPM with light cuts. Sand wet from 220 up to 2,000 grit and fill minor voids with thin CA glue as needed. Finish with Magic Juice polish for a deep glossy shine that highlights the historic layers. Minor variations and inclusions are part of its charm.
Ideal for premium pens such as Sierra-style or Wall Street kits from our Compatible Pen Component Sets. Create daily carry pens, showpiece gifts, or display pieces paired with Pen display stands & COA holders. Explore more options in the Pen blanks collection or the Hybrid blanks gallery. For color enhancement try Mica powders. See related natural materials in Maneater alligator jawbone.
