Philodendron hederaceum 'Micans'

Philodendron 'Micans' is a beautiful trailing houseplant prized for its soft, velvety foliage and rich, ever-changing color. Its classic heart-shaped leaves emerge in warm shades of bronze and copper before developing deeper green tones, often with hints of burgundy and purple depending on the light. The velvety surface catches the light beautifully, giving each leaf a subtle shimmer and depth that sets it apart from the traditional glossy Heartleaf Philodendron.

Naturally fast-growing and easygoing, 'Micans' can be allowed to cascade from a hanging basket or shelf or trained upward on a moss pole or trellis. Its ability to tolerate lower-light conditions makes it adaptable to a variety of indoor spaces, while brighter indirect light encourages fuller growth and richer foliage coloration.

Philodendron 'Micans' Basic Care: Easy

Watering: Allow the soil to become fairly dry between waterings. Water thoroughly once the top 1–2 inches of soil has dried, and let excess water drain completely.

Light: Tolerates low to bright indirect light, making it an adaptable indoor plant. Medium to bright filtered light encourages fuller growth and helps bring out the beautiful bronze and burgundy tones in the foliage. Avoid harsh direct sunlight.

Soil/Drainage: Use a loose, well-draining tropical or aroid potting mix. Adding orchid bark and perlite improves drainage and airflow around the roots.

Temperature/Humidity: Prefers warm indoor temperatures and moderate humidity. Average household humidity is generally suitable, though additional humidity can encourage lush growth.

Feeding: Feed every 4–6 weeks during spring and summer with a balanced liquid houseplant fertilizer diluted to half strength. Reduce feeding during fall and winter.

Repotting: Repot every 1–2 years or when the plant becomes rootbound. Always use a container with adequate drainage.

General Tips: Pinch or trim longer vines to encourage a fuller, bushier plant. 'Micans' can be grown as a trailing plant or provided with a moss pole or trellis for climbing. Stem cuttings root readily, making it an excellent variety to propagate and share.
