Carved from warm travertine, the Ram Bookends draw inspiration from the enduring symbolism of the ram—an emblem of strength, guardianship, and quiet determination found throughout classical mythology and heraldry. Each sculpted head emerges with confident form and gentle curvature, lending the pair a sense of watchful presence as they frame a collection of books. The natural texture and soft tonal variation of the stone give the pieces the character of artifacts shaped by time. Both decorative and purposeful, they reflect Maitland-Smith’s enduring appreciation for classical inspiration, storied materials, and the beauty of objects that feel discovered rather than merely designed.
