The Akari E is among the first light sculptures designed by Isamu Noguchi. It features mulberry bark washi paper, tight, evenly spaced bamboo ribbing, and one of the longest and most complex forms Noguchi created for the series. The essentially cylindrical shape flares and recedes, creating multiple planes, ridges, and a distinct asymmetrical ovoid across its sinewy nine feet.
