The Akari L1 is among the Akari light sculptures Isamu Noguchi designed about twenty five years after the start of the series. It features mulberry bark washi paper, devoid of traditional bamboo ribbing (higo), and resembles a long rectangular prism. The edges of the four faces of the prism are cut, beginning approximately one third of the way down its length, allowing each face to move freely in the air. The upper edges of the cuts are reinforced with short spans of red tape.
