Golden Midget Watermelon is an heirloom variety with compact vines that need only a small space to grow and are perfect for either small gardens or planting in containers. The thin tough green rind turns golden-orange when mature making it easier to tell when ripe. Growing to 7-8 inchs, oval and are very sweet with rich deep red flesh.

Watermelon is a great source of potassium, Vitamins A, B and C.
Grows well with corn, pumpkins, radishes and squash.

After last danger of frost and when the soil reaches 75-80 degrees. plant in rich, fertile soil. Usually sown in groups (hills) of 3-5 seeds and thinned to the 2 strongest plants per group. In areas with cool spring soils start plants indoors at 80-85 degrees, 2-3 weeks before the last frost date, in deep pots that can be set into the soil without disturbing the roots of the seedlings.

Transplant at the 4 leaf stage. Germination temperature: 75-80 deg. Water regularly and fertilize when 6″ (15 cm) tall and the lateral runners begin to spread. Place mulch or straw under the melons to keep them off of the soil.
Harvest Allow fruits to reach full size and cut from the vine when the rind color changes to golden-orange. The skin should be firm and when thumped, a dull hollow sound should indicate ripeness.
