‘Osage’ is a top-performing thornless blackberry variety developed by the University of Arkansas and prized for its exceptional sweetness, rich flavor, and dependable yields. Glossy, medium-sized berries offer medium-firm texture and excellent post-harvest quality, making them a strong choice for both fresh use and storage.
Plant ‘Osage’ in full sun, spacing plants about 3 to 4 feet apart. Choose fertile, well-drained soil with a pH of about 6.0 to 6.8, and keep the soil evenly moist, especially during the first year while plants become established. Prune out old fruiting canes after harvest to encourage healthy new growth and continued production.
Best suited to USDA Zones 5–9, ‘Osage’ is upright, disease-resistant, highly productive, and easy to manage. Plants may produce a light crop the first year and typically reach fuller production by the second year. Once established, berries generally ripen about 35 to 45 days after bloom.
Sweet, flavorful, and versatile, ‘Osage’ blackberries are excellent for fresh eating, baking, freezing, canning, preserves, and desserts. Thornless canes make harvesting easier, while the fruit’s firmness and good shelf life add extra value after picking.
