Premium Palm Fiber Mulch

Give your landscape a clean, natural finish with SD Microbes Premium Palm Fiber Mulch.

Made from shredded palm material, this fibrous mulch creates a dense, interlocking ground cover that helps conserve moisture, protect soil, suppress weeds, and reduce erosion. Its long, stringy texture helps it knit together and stay in place better than many traditional wood-chip mulches.

Sometimes referred to as palm hair mulch or monkey hair mulch, shredded palm fiber is an excellent choice for landscapes, slopes, orchards, tree rings, garden beds, pathways, and commercial properties throughout San Diego County.

Why Choose Palm Fiber Mulch?

Helps retain soil moisture — Reduces evaporation and helps keep soil cooler during hot Southern California weather.
Excellent ground coverage — The fibrous palm material creates a dense protective layer over exposed soil.
Naturally suppresses weeds — Applying a thick layer helps block sunlight and reduce weed germination.
Stays in place — The shredded fibers interlock, making it especially useful on slopes, hillsides, and areas prone to erosion.
Protects soil — Helps reduce erosion, compaction, and extreme soil temperature swings.
Slowly adds organic matter — Palm fiber gradually breaks down and contributes carbon and organic material back into the soil.
Natural landscape appearance — Provides a rustic, uniform finish around trees, shrubs, orchards, and planting beds.

Great For

Commercial landscapes
Orchards and fruit trees
Tree and shrub rings
Garden beds
Raised bed pathways
Hillsides and slopes
Drought-tolerant landscapes
Erosion control

How Much Palm Mulch Should I Apply?

For most landscape applications, we recommend applying approximately 3–4 inches of Palm Fiber Mulch.

For stronger weed suppression, moisture retention, or erosion protection, a thicker layer may be beneficial.

Keep mulch slightly away from tree trunks and plant stems rather than piling it directly against them.
