This rug will be woven by a group of artisans from a village just outside Beni M’rirt, in Morocco’s Middle Atlas Mountains.
Made from 100% wool, the piece begins with wool that is brushed, carded, and spun by hand by the women of the association. Both the ivory and black hues come from undyed, natural wool.
The traditional Beni M’rirt rug is inspired by the well-known Beni Ourain style, though the techniques differ in several ways. Most notably, Beni M’rirt rugs are woven with a denser knot and thicker wool, giving them their signature plush feel.
For this design, the artisans drew from classic Beni Ourain motifs, then reimagined them through repetition and a more free-form composition.
The result is a rug that feels as cozy, plush, and soft as it looks.
