Water spills over the wooden wheel at the side of the old stone mill, whose ivy-covered walls and slate roof glow warm against the turning woods. To the left a little arched bridge carries the path over the stream, and copper leaves overhang the bank. The millpond below holds a long, golden reflection of the whole scene, dotted with fallen leaves.
Rich and glowing, it makes a handsome centerpiece above a fireplace in the living room or on the main wall of a dining room. As the namesake view of the Autumn at the Mill collection, nine paintings of one old watermill and the woods around it, it sits well with Leaves on Still Water and Through the Mill Window.
