The tide has gone out, leaving a green and white fishing boat sitting on the sand against the granite quay, its mooring chains slack. Shallow pools across the beach mirror the hull, the mast and the white cottages above, while seaweed-covered rocks dot the foreground. Out past the harbor mouth, small waves break and the coast runs on to a village on the far headland.
The reflections give it a gentle shimmer that brightens a dining room, and it makes a handsome piece above a fireplace in the living room. Low Tide is one of nine paintings of a granite fishing village on the French coast in the Atlantic Harbour collection, and it hangs well alongside The Granite Quay and The Headland.
