Heaps of green fishing net, coiled rope and old floats fill the shadowed corner of a timber loft, its plank floor still damp. The tall doors stand open onto the quay, where lobster pots are stacked and two small rowing boats rest on calm water. Across the harbor, gray stone cottages with slate roofs line the shore beneath a low, cloudy sky.
The contrast of a dim interior and bright water makes it a strong choice for a study or home office, or for a living room with darker walls. As one of nine paintings of a northern French fishing village in the Atlantic Harbour collection, it looks lovely beside Steps to the Tide and Beneath the Seawall.
