Two sage-green casements stand open from a deep limestone sill, and the garden seems to come right into the room. Pink roses climb the outer wall, a silvery shrub and purple irises edge a small round pond, and olive trees and cypresses lead the eye to a village on a distant hill. Sunlight lies across the sill in soft, broken shapes.
Because it is a view from indoors, it feels especially natural in a bedroom or a windowless office, where it reads like a second window. It is one of nine paintings of a limestone farmhouse, its garden and the surrounding country in the French Country Light collection, and it looks lovely beside The Old Orchard and Across the Meadow.
