A weeping willow hangs low over still water, its long green strands almost touching a scatter of pale pink water lilies. Across the pond, a low limestone wall carries climbing roses, and cypresses and a hilltop village sit in the haze behind. The surface holds every reflection of sky, willow and wall, so the painting feels cool, open and very calm.
Its cool blues and greens settle nicely in a bedroom, or over a sideboard in a dining room with pale walls. Within the French Country Light collection it is one of nine paintings of a stone farmhouse and its grounds, and it hangs well beside The Rose Walk and The Limestone Cottage.
