Lwanda Throwoff

Aulonocara sp. "Lwanda"

Lwanda Throwoff comes from Ron’s OB Lwanda breeder group and represents non-blotched offspring that can resemble regular Lwanda peacocks while still carrying the influence of the OB line. Blues, purples, yellow, and orange can vary from fish to fish.

Origin and Habitat

• Native Region: Ron’s Cichlids throwoff from OB Lwanda peacock breeders.
• Natural Habitat: Captive-bred strain; Lwanda-type peacocks are best kept with sand, rock cover, and open swimming room.

Physical Characteristics

• Size: 6-7 inches.
• Coloration: Males can show blue or purple tones with yellow or orange; females are generally gray and may produce both throwoff and OB offspring.
• Body Shape: Medium peacock body with a laterally compressed profile.

Behavior and Temperament

• Temperament: Mildly aggressive.
• Social Behavior: Best with other peacocks and peaceful to moderately assertive haps.

Aquarium Care

• Tank Size: A 55 gallon aquarium or larger is recommended.
• Water Parameters: 74-84°F, pH 7.4-8.4, hard water.
• Tank Setup: Use sand, rockwork for cover, open swimming lanes, and strong filtration.

Diet and Feeding

• Primary Staple: Feed a quality daily diet such as Ron’s Peacock & Hap Adult Food.
• Juveniles: Growing fish can be fed Ron’s Juvenile Food.
• Fry: Newly released fry should be started on Ron’s Fry Food.
• Feeding Frequency: Feed 1–2 small meals daily and avoid overfeeding.

Breeding

• Breeding Type: Maternal mouthbrooder.
• Breeding Notes: Females mouthbrood eggs and fry. Because this is a throwoff from an OB line, offspring may vary and breeding groups should be kept clearly labeled.

Tank Mates

• Compatible With: Lake Malawi peacocks and calmer haps of similar size.
• Avoid: Aggressive mbuna, large predators, and unlabeled breeding with similar peacock strains.
