DESCRIPTION
The Katy Apricot Tree (Prunus armeniaca 'Katy') is a vigorous, deciduous fruit tree producing large, golden-orange apricots with a reddish blush. Its sweet, juicy, low-acid fruit is excellent for fresh eating, baking, and preserves. Early spring blossoms precede a late May to early June harvest. Self-pollinating, Katy requires approximately 300–400 winter chill hours, making it ideal for mild Southern California climates.
Plant in full sun with well-draining soil. Hardy in USDA Zones 7–10, trees can reach 15–25 feet, depending on rootstock, but remain smaller with pruning. Water deeply, fertilize in spring, and thin developing fruit. Prune during dry summer weather.
