The Roamwild Arch Window Bird Feeder lets you feed and watch songbirds from inches away, from inside your home. Two ultra-strong suction cups with built-in vacuum clips hold it to the glass from summer heat to winter cold, an arched roof keeps the seed dry, and the 4 lb (2.1 qt) capacity means you fill it about once a week. $34.99 with free US shipping.

Why it stays on the window

Plain suction cups let go when the glass gets hot or cold. The Arch adds a vacuum clip to each cup that locks the seal once the cup is pressed on. Mount it on clean, dry glass; warming the cups in your hands first helps in cold weather. Window protectors are included.

• Capacity: 4 lb (2.1 qt / 2 L) of seed; takes sunflower hearts, black oil sunflower, safflower and mixed seed.
• Size: 8 x 6 x 12 in; weight 2.5 lb.
• Material: crystal-clear, ultra-strong polycarbonate.
• In the box: feeder and window protectors.
• Cleaning: remove from the window to clean and refill; clean every two weeks.

Squirrels and larger birds

A window feeder can be reached by squirrels, starlings and pigeons. The optional Arch Window Feeder Squirrel Proof Cage Accessory ($22.99) clips on and is sized so songbirds pass through while squirrels and larger birds cannot.

Bird safety

Feeders mounted directly on the glass reduce the risk of window strikes: birds take off from the feeder rather than flying at the window at speed. Suits apartments, condos and homes without a yard.
