How it keeps insects out

The feeding ports are shaped so a hummingbird's bill and tongue reach the nectar but bees and wasps cannot. Two independent water-filled moats sit above the reservoir; even if one runs dry in summer heat, the second still blocks ants and earwigs. Nectar and cleaning

Use plain sugar water, four parts water to one part white sugar, with no dye. In hot weather change the nectar every two to three days and rinse the feeder each time; clean thoroughly every week. Ruby-throated, Anna's and Rufous hummingbirds all use this feeder.
