Rivers Cuomo and company have never been afraid to reinvent themselves, cycling through eras that range from the confessional vulnerability of the Blue Album to the maximalist experiments of later years. With a songwriting process this open and democratic, expect something that sounds genuinely lived-in rather than front-loaded with one vision. "Shine Again" suggests the band is reaching for something earnest and wide-open.
