When John Prine walked away from a major label deal and founded Oh Boy Records, he bet on himself and the listeners who'd followed him since the early '70s. *The Missing Years* arrived two decades into his career with Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, and Bonnie Raitt lending their voices, a gathering of peers that spoke to how deeply Prine was respected among the generation that came up alongside him. It won the Grammy for Best Contemporary Folk Album and reminded anyone who'd lost track of him exactly what they'd been missing.
