They could dig up our ancestors. But Sir John A. was off limits?
This design draws from a 1978 protest by Alex Akiwenzie of Nations of Warriors. He proposed symbolically digging up Sir John A. Macdonald to call out the desecration of Indigenous burial grounds.
The double standard was clear: settler cemeteries were protected while Indigenous ancestral remains were being dug up and sent to museums.
Our ancestors deserve respect. Our burial grounds deserve protection.
