This workshop is an introduction to plant and mineral colors. It can be applied to various art practices such as printing, painting, paper arts, encaustic, weaving...... You will gain a basic understanding of plant dyes that will be created from harvested plants. We will make concentrates to experiment with and discuss the possibilities for printing and painting by thickening and pigment making. I will also introduce iron and alum mordants to fix and shift colors.

We will be creating silk and cotton samples of each colorful bath we create. On hand will also be paper to sample the shades of watercolors that you will be making.

• Please bring pen, notebook, towel, and baggie to bring home wet textiles. Wear something safe to get dirty.

* No refunds within two weeks before class is scheduled. You may transfer your class to another person if you'd like but please let Rio know about this.  There is no make up or transfer classes if you don't show up for scheduled workshop.
