The Spherical Convex Densiometer is a compact, lightweight instrument designed for estimating forest overstory density in the field. The densiometer has been extensively used by foresters and forestry technicians to evaluate canopy coverage in a variety of forest environments.
The instrument features a convex spherical mirror engraved with a 24-square grid. The grid is used to estimate the proportion of overhead area occupied by tree crowns, providing a practical method for assessing canopy density and overstory conditions.
A recessed circular spirit bubble level helps the user maintain the instrument in a level position for consistent readings and its compact 3" x 3" hardwood instrument case provides a durable and portable housing for transport. Operating instructions are also included.
