Smooth, even, hollow clay spheres in minutes. Our split mould kit takes the guesswork out of making spheres for lanterns, planters, tealight holders, ornaments and sculptural pieces, with no wobbly seams and no hours of pinching.

Designed with Dorset ceramicist Karen Wiltshire (@karenwiltshireceramics), who uses it in her studio every week. In her words, it is such an easy way to make spheres in clay.

What is in the full kit

  • Universal base: a square block with a hole that holds the mould steady. One base works for every sphere size
  • 2 part hemisphere shaping mould, matched to your sphere size
  • Plunger, matched to your sphere size
  • Flower shaped cutter, which removes excess clay so your walls come out smooth and even

Sizes

  • 3 inch (76mm)
  • 2.75 inch (70mm)
  • 2.5 inch (64mm)
  • 2 inch (51mm)

The large cutter fits the 3, 2.75 and 2.5 inch sizes. The 2 inch size has its own smaller cutter.

Adding more sizes?

The kit needs the base to work, so choose the full kit for your first one. When you add more sizes you can leave out the base, the cutter, or both, to save money and waste.

How to use

  1. Roll a slab of clay and cut a circle with the cutter
  2. Press the clay into each half of the mould
  3. Trim the edges flush
  4. Bring the two halves together to form the sphere
  5. Release and finish

Care

3D printed in our Dorset workshop. Sizes are marked on each block. Wipe clean with a damp sponge and dry before use. Please keep away from high heat, so no hot cars or kilns. Once used with clay, keep for craft use only and not for food.
