The Prop Options Single Tier Utility Structure Kit has been brought to life with Victor, from ML Bespoke Cakes, and provides an internal support system that gives a single-tier cake real structural strength. The base anchors a stainless steel central rod that runs up through the middle of the cake, acting as a dependable central dowel so the cake holds its shape and stays stable. The cake is built on the matching printed cake board that sits over the base, with the rod supporting it from the core.
It is made for cake designers working on single tiers that need to hold up: tall cakes, larger or heavier designs, and anything that has to survive decorating, display and the journey to the venue. There is no drilling cake boards and no rigging up a DIY support from odd bits and pieces. One reusable central support does the job and keeps the whole tier true, which saves you time, effort and stress. Developed with Victor Diaz as part of the PropUtility range.
This kit was developed with cake artist Victor Diaz, who builds tall and structurally demanding single and multi-tier cakes in his work. Together we refined a single-tier support system that gives that internal strength reliably, is food-safe, and is quick to set up. Explore the full range on the Prop Options × Victor Diaz collection.
How does the support work?
The stainless steel rod is anchored in the base and runs up through the centre of the cake, acting as a rigid central dowel. It carries the structure from the core, so a tall or large single tiers stay stable and true rather than leaning or slumping.
Is it food safe?
Yes. The base and cake board are 3D printed in food-safe PLA and the central rod is stainless steel. As the rod runs inside the cake, follow your usual food-contact hygiene practice when inserting it, and hand wash all parts between uses. We would recommend covering the rod with a hollow dowel for ease of use.
Which base size and rod height should I choose?
Match the base size to your cake: the 10" base pairs with an 8" cake board, and the 12" base pairs with a 10" cake board. Both bases are suitable for cakes up to 10" and 12" respectively. Choose the rod height (5" to 9") for how far up into the cake you want the internal support to reach, based on the height of your tier.
Is it suitable for transporting cakes?
Yes. Used correctly, the internal support helps keep a single tier stable and secure through display and transport, not just while you decorate.
What is the difference between this and the Tiered Structure Kit?
This kit supports a single tier from the inside. The Tiered Structure Kit supports two, three or four stacked tiers. Choose this one for a strong, stable single-tier cake.
How do I care for it?
Hand wash only and dry before storing. It is not dishwasher safe. Looked after, it is fully reusable across many events.
