1mm Expanded PVC Sheet (3-pack) • Project Puppet

Expanded PVC is a lightweight, semi-rigid plastic that's great for puppet mouthplates and other structural supports.

Why is it great for puppet-building? Expanded PVC is:

Easy to cut, requiring just a hobby knife or pair of scissors (for thin sheets); no power tools necessary
Easy to shape due to it's thermoplastic properties
Waterproof (sweatproof)
Flame-resistant and self-extinguishing
Mold and mildew resistant
Resistant to many chemicals and solvents (using Barge Cement is not a problem)
Non-toxic and recyclable

Our 1mm Expanded PVC Sheets are 8 in. x 10 in. (203mm x 254mm) and come in a pack of three (3). Need a thicker sheet? Check out our 3mm Expanded PVC Sheets.

Puppet-Building Principles to Ponder

Many puppet builders, even professional ones, use 1/4-inch thick hobby plywood for mouthplates. Compare the properties of wood to expanded PVC. Which material do you think better suits the needs of traditional hand puppet design?
