Cabine cups are pinched and shaped like sculptural pieces. Once formed, they are slowly dried to prevent warping, then sponged to refine the form. When dry, each piece spends 24 hours in the kiln for a bisque firing at 1800°F. After cooling and removal from the bisque fire, the pieces are gently hand-sanded and sponge-bathed.
The piece is glazed and then fired in a glaze firing for another 24 hours at 2300°F. A third firing occurs after the application of mother-of-pearl glaze.
The entire process, from start to finish, takes about one month to complete.
