This original British poster for A Bigger Splash draws together the sunlit swimming-pool world of David Hockney’s paintings and an intimate photographic portrait. The contrast between painted space and the figure in the foreground is a lovely introduction to a film that moves between art, friendship and the private life behind the canvas.

Jack Hazan’s 1974 film follows Hockney and his circle during the early 1970s, blending documentary observation with carefully staged scenes. Peter Schlesinger, Celia Birtwell and other familiar faces appear as the painter’s relationships and working life unfold. For Hockney lovers, it offers a fascinating glimpse into the people and places that helped shape his work.
