Belgian motorcycle maker Socovel developed electric machines during the fuel shortages of the 1940s, before also promoting small petrol-powered motorcycles after the war. This brilliant advertising poster, printed in Brussels around 1948, features a cheerful rider and a bird racing alongside, giving the design a wonderful sense of speed and freedom.
The smiling rider gives the machine a friendly, everyday appeal, while the bird and flowing movement suggest the freedom of taking to the road. It is a charming approach to motorcycle advertising, celebrating the pleasure of the journey through illustration rather than relying on a technical portrait of the bike.
Framed posters come with a timeless made to measure custom frame available in black, white, natural oak or walnut colour. Each frame is made from high quality solid oak and the artwork is available to be framed with or without a surrounding white mount to make the poster stand out even more. Our frames are custom built to order in our UK workshop, and so we work to 7-14 working days lead time for dispatch. Please note that due to their custom nature, frames are non-refundable with the exception of if they are damaged or incorrect. The frame size is the size of the poster plus an additional 70mm on each side if including a mount.
Unframed posters are securely packed in a reinforced cardboard tube. We aim to dispatch within 2 working days, although this may be slightly longer during busy periods. Framed orders are made to measure and can take up to 14 working days to dispatch, packed in a reinforced cardboard box.
Unframed posters ship free worldwide. UK delivery is free on framed orders too. International framed shipping is £155 for standard shipments, or £285 for shipments over 30lb. See our shipping and delivery information.
