The Nofence Sheep & Goat Collar (SG2.5) is a solar-powered GPS collar that lets you graze sheep and goats without building fence — and it's the only virtual fence solution recommended by Powerflex. We vetted the options, put collars in the hands of producers on our own customer base, and Nofence is what held up in the field. Set virtual boundaries in the free Nofence app and the collar guides each animal with an escalating audio warning before any mild electric pulse — so your flock learns the line and stays put. Nofence reports a 99.7% containment rate across its fleet, from the most field-tested virtual fence on the market.
Straight numbers, because this is the question everybody asks first.
On 100 head that is $26,900 up front and about $4,500 a year after the first year. Run your own numbers in the calculator below.
Steep, brushy and rocky ground that could never be physically fenced becomes grazable. Powerflex producers have used the SG2.5 for targeted brush and weed control on terrain that would never pencil out with wire — creek bottoms, rocky ridges, leased parcels with no infrastructure. It has also become the standard tool for contract grazing on solar sites and public ground — multiple sites, one app, no infrastructure left behind when the job is done. We recommended Nofence because we watched it work, on real operations, with real animals.
Each collar includes the rechargeable battery and wired charger, plus full app access, a U.S.-based support team, a 5-year collar warranty and a money-back guarantee if the system is not right for your operation. Those terms are administered by Nofence, not by Powerflex.
Grants, cost-share and financing can apply to virtual fencing depending on your state, herd size and operation. See our EQIP cost-share and funding guide for how producers are getting fencing and water infrastructure funded, and talk to us before you order.
Nofence states that you retain ownership of your herd and land data, and that it is never sold or shared without your consent.
"I dreamed of using goats to transform our land, but the challenges of fencing this terrain seemed insurmountable. With Nofence, we've made it happen."

How much does a Nofence sheep and goat collar cost?
$269 per collar, with a 5-collar minimum order — so $1,345 to start. The first 12 months of subscription are included.
What does the subscription cost after the first year?
Roughly $45 per collar per year, billed monthly or annually by Nofence directly. Nofence sets this rate and can change it, so confirm before you budget.
Is there a minimum order?
Yes — 5 collars. The system relies on HerdNet collar-to-collar mesh, so it is designed to run as a group rather than on a single animal.
Will it hold goats?
Goats are the hardest class of stock to fence and the SG2.5 is built for them. Animals learn the audio warning quickly, and Nofence reports a 99.7% containment rate across its fleet. A trained flock stays put; expect a learning period at the start.
Do I need cell service?
Collars use LTE Cat-M1 / 2G and relay for each other over HerdNet, so the system tolerates patchy coverage without a base station. Total dead zones are still a problem — call us and we will talk through your ground.
Do lambs and kids need collars?
No. One collar per adult animal; young stock under roughly six months typically stay with their mothers.
Can I run it alongside cattle collars?
Yes. SG2.5 collars run on the same Nofence account as C2.5 or N3 cattle collars, in one app.
