The Jobe Topaz Float Valve is a high-flow water trough float valve built to keep livestock troughs, stock tanks and water tanks full automatically. Made by Jobe Valves of New Zealand, the Topaz is a proven choice for cattle, horse and sheep producers who need fast refills, a compact and robust valve, and dependable shut-off in real farm and ranch conditions.
The Topaz works differently from a basic float valve. The float operates a small pilot valve, which in turn operates the main diaphragm valve — so you get high flow when the trough needs water and a gradual close that helps reduce water hammer in your lines. Water level stays within a 3/4"–2-1/2" range, adjusting with inlet pressure.
Choose the size and tail that fit your setup. The Topaz is available in 3/4", 1" and 1-1/4" inlets, with long tail options supplied with a backnut and seal washer for through-wall mounting, short tail options for a low-profile connection, and a 1" Detach model on Jobe's Detach base, compatible with the Detach Outlet Extension (sold separately). Larger inlets deliver more flow at the same pressure, making the 1" and 1-1/4" a strong fit for big troughs and high-demand watering points.
Built from corrosion-resistant materials — a glass-filled nylon body, 304 stainless steel hardware and an HDPE float — the Topaz is made for daily use in the pasture. Set your water level by hand with no tools, lock the valve off whenever you need to, and add Jobe's FrostPro anti-freeze device (sold separately) through the built-in port when temperatures drop.
Whether you're watering rotational grazing paddocks, filling cattle troughs, or maintaining stock tanks, water storage tanks and cisterns, the Jobe Topaz Float Valve keeps your water system running the way it should.
High-Flow Pilot-Operated Design
Float-controlled pilot valve drives the main diaphragm for fast trough refills.
Gradual Shut-Off
Closes slowly to help reduce water hammer in your lines.
Flexible Mounting
Installs top, side or bottom entry, horizontally or vertically — above or below the water line.
Tool-Free Float Adjustment
Set your water level by hand — no tools needed.
On/Off Lock Switch
Locks the valve in the off position.
3/4" Long or Short Tail
The standard choice for most livestock troughs and stock tanks.
1" and 1-1/4"
More flow at the same pressure for large troughs, big herds and high-demand watering points.
Long Tail vs. Short Tail
Long tails (1-1/2"–2-3/8" thread) come with a backnut and seal washer for mounting through a trough or tank wall. Short tails (7/8"–1" thread) give a compact, low-profile connection.
1" Detach Short Tail
Short tail on Jobe's Detach base, compatible with the Detach Outlet Extension (sold separately).

Can the Topaz be mounted underwater?
Yes. The Topaz is configured for above or below water mounting, with top, side or bottom entry.
Will it work on a low-pressure gravity-fed system?
The Topaz operates from 5 psi (0.3 bar) up to 100 psi (7 bar), covering many gravity-fed and pressurized systems.
How do I prevent back-siphoning?
Jobe recommends mounting the valve at least two inlet diameters above the trough's overflow. Some mounting positions may not comply with local regulations, so check yours.
Can I use it in freezing weather?
The Topaz has a built-in port for Jobe's FrostPro anti-freeze device (sold separately), designed to help minimize freezing.
The right valve keeps water moving — the Jobe Topaz keeps your troughs full, your lines calm, and your herd watered.
